Ten Paintings in a Decaying Office Building: A Selection of Large Scale Work by Bryan Schnelle May 17th, 2012 Phone Booth Gallery is proud to present “Ten Paintings in a Decaying Office Building” a selection of large scale work by Bryan Schnelle. A 4,800 square foot space built in 1922 aptly named “The Bungalow Building” is the perfect setting for a pop-up exhibition of Schnelle’s 10 behemoth paintings all at once. Typographical pieces include “Hottest Batman” and “Alien UFO” as more experimental works “Welcome to the Twilight Zone” and “Fade In” raise questions of method and message. “Ten Paintings in a Decaying Office Building” opens May 18, 2012, with a reception from 7-10 pm. This all-ages event will take place at 737 Pine Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90813. The exhibition will remain on view through June 15th by appointment only. Always a blast with a mix of PBG regulars and newbies! Paul Alvarez III “Unsinkable” April 10th, 2012 Paul Alvarez III has a distinct inking style and technique that employs various mark marking techniques–scratching, scraping, brushing, and stippling are all a part of Paul’s arsenal. When we spoke with him a few months ago to do his very first screen print with Phone Booth Gallery, the R.M.S. Titanic was an obvious choice. Paul loves marine and underwater themes. His portfolio is filled with effigies of Poseidon, and imagery of ships, Eels, Fish, Hawaiian folklore, and sharks. The 100th anniversary of the sinking of Titanic happened to be in 2012, as well as the re-release of the epic movie onto the big screen. Take a look at the well crafted print, executed with help from our friends at Color Beast. Also, watch the video with some extra closeups and flyovers. Nick Marquez “Skullduggery: A Tribute to the Dark Side” April 3rd, 2012 Over a year ago, Nick Marquez participated in a live paint event we had at the gallery. The place was packed, and Nick chose to paint a skull-infused Stormtrooper / Star Wars inspired idea he had been contriving the weeks prior. You can see what came out of it in this VIDEO we put together. Anyway, time passed, and we decided to do a print. One print turned into a series of three, and “Skullduggery: A Tribute to the Dark Side” was born. Here are some photos of the signing, as well as a video with some nice closeups of the prints. Get yours in our PRINTS section of the site.
